My 6 month old Toshiba 1tb harddrive is no longer recognised by my computer.
The blue light on the hard drive comes on and I can hear/feel it whirring.
I have tried a new cable to rule out an easy fix.
I have tried connecting it to another computer, again to no avail.
How can I get to my data??
Please Please help as am I distraught that I cannot access my photographs, especially those of my little boys first 2 years!!!

You get your data from your backups but I assume you never made any or forgot that you did. Your in a tight spot because the drive is under warranty and you will void it if we have you open it up and opening it up to get to the drive inside may not even help...

First step would be to let us know the model# of the drive so we can see if its a sata drive or a usb inside it
Next you contact Toshiba for permission to open the drive so that you can attempt data recovery and not void your warranty.
Third is you get another external 2tb drive or lots of blank disks (assuming you have access to a working dvd burner) because you do not recover files back to the same drive you are recovering from and I will want to make an image of the defective...

Do not use the defective drive until you are ready to begin.
