Hello Guys

I have a xw4400 HP Workstation. The label on it shows Windows XP Professional HP. I had a problem and checked only to find the OS is really W7.

The Hard Drives are Seagate so I decided to use Seatools to do Short DST test. It passed so the Hard Drives are Okay.

I then did a Erase Track Zero to wipe the Hard Drives.

As the Product Key on the PC is for Windows XP I am considering using the Product Key to download and Reinstall a XP Operating System.

Can anyone advise me on this matter please.

Thanking everyone for your help.

Thank you hang-the-9.

Your reply has set me thinking.

It must be that the machine has already been upgraded from WXP to W7.

So when I Erased the Data I would have been wiping a Hard Drive already upgraded to W7.So the WXP sticker no longer apply.

Now, I do not have a W7 installation Disk. So I could now look for instructions on how to Reinstall Without a Disk. But the Disk is wiped so I cannot get any info from it.

Thanks again for your help.

It's impossible to re-install the OS without the disk, either a DVD or a bootable USB stick made from the ISO file of that disk.

Since you already wiped it, you also need to purchase a license for Windows 7 since you can't even get the Windows 7 code that was used on it originally. You also could have done the free Windows 10 upgrade from 7 to get a "free" legally activated new operating system. You also lost that chance by wiping the drive first.
