My toshiba external hard drive is denying me access!!!

I only bought the hard drive earlier on this year and it worked just fine till now. I connected it to my TV yesterday and since then it is not working when I connect it to my computer. But it seems to be working fine on the TV though.

When I go on my computer the drive is showing up as NTFS. How do I gain access to my files again?

Please help!

How does the drive appear under Disk Management? It would be helpful if you provide a screenshot.
Apart from that, you can try booting up Ubuntu either from a CD or a flash drive and see whether you will be able to access the drive: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/267999-32-recover-data-mode
In case you manage to get your data back, then you can just reformat the drive and see whether the issue persists.

I have the exact same problem, plugged the hard drive to my smart tv and when I connected it back in my computer it denied access to its content, I tried everything, chkdsk/f, takeown, changing the ownership, etc. and still nothing worked, I don’t know what else to do…
