My High End PC Nows Runs Slower And Game FPS is Lower

I built my own PC about a month or two ago. It has a i5 4670K Processor with a GTX 980 graphics card. Everything was running smoothly a few weeks ago. I could run Witcher 3 at at around 58 FPS and most other games where 60+.

I went away on holiday for a couple of weeks and now i have come back to my computer running slower and it is getting me annoyed. The disks do not need defragging and as far as i am aware, there are no viruses.

Help?

easy fix, reformat and install a fresh windows. your supposed to do this every six months or so anyway. good luck.

How's the memory usage, and what OS? Memory being unnaturally high can slow the computer.

If it's Windows 10 with a high memory usage, and after a reboot you can watch the usage just ticking up, then it's possibly a known memory leak. (The following link may point to a registry edit fix for it if it is.)

I have an XP machine here with an OS up time of more than a decade . Its been cloned at least twice , and been swapped across a series of motherboards .
One thing you definitely do not need to do is reinstall windows every 6 months

For this machine : Check task manager for RAM usage . Sometimes a program wont release RAM and a system crawls .

Also check that all windows updates are installed .
If you have done the win 10 update try rebooting a few times .
Also try updating drivers to the latest versions

The memory seems OK. It doesn't creep up while watching it? Is there anything consuming your CPU (processing) time or disk access?

Bare in mind that I don't have a Win10 machine, so these are just general questions. answers.microsoft.com may have something similar to your issue, though. (MS might not have a valid answer, but the community of users may.)

Check the drivers on your card, maybe. If your system is somehow relying on the motherboard graphics, that could appear as slow performance.

I have the latest drivers and no viruses. Every game seems to be lagging, even games like Fallout 3 Which i should be able to run on ultra high no problem.
