I spent almost 900 dollars on my pc build and it still isnt great for gaming. i run skyrim at 20 fps in heavily snowy areas and when the weather is clear, it is around 26-40 fps. My specs are: MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte ga-z97-hd3, POWER SUPPLY: EVGA 430 watt 80+ atx, PROCESSOR: i5 4690k 3.5 ghz but overclocked at 4.24 ghz right now (but i could overclock higher but choose not to), HARD DRIVE: Western Digital 2TB 3.5-inch, SATA 6 Gb/s, 7200 RPM, 64MB Cache WD2003FZEX, RAM: G.Skill 2 x 8(16gb) DDR3-1600 PC3-12800, GRAPHICS CARD: NVIDIA GeForce GT 730 1GB, Windows 8.1 and i use an external usb optical drive if that matters, which is: Lite-On IT Corporation Optical Drives EBAU108-01

When we are 4 full pages into this thread...
Decisions have all been made...
Orders placed...
Products received...
Products installed into the system...
...and being used...

...And then you should up, and comment negatively on the entire process, is it not rather pointless?

is was a cheap one and i already spent so much on everything else so i wanted to go as cheap as possible but still get good results. i was thinking maybe the power supply might be my problem but most people say it is alright for gaming from what i saw on google but idk for sure. i would just like to know what the problem is and if the graphics card is the problem then should i just try to use my on board\ integrated graphics since i have 16gb ram?

The integrated Graphics will be even worse. Just deal with it and save up for something like a GTX 970.

Your video card and power supply are both very weak. If you expect to play newer games you need at least a GTX 750 ti or better and the EVGA 430 PSU is very low quality for a gaming system.

surely there is a different way to make it run better. i have seen different youtubers play games like that without that great of a graphics card. is there any other solution?

Lower your settings........

Other than that, you're screwed.

Hate to break it to you man but, that just isn't a gaming GPU. Unfourtantley, I doubt your onboard graphics will be any better than your card. Not to beat a dead horse but it may have been smarter to have 8gb of ram and spend the extra money on a better gpu.

If you don't have a lot of money to spend but are still wanting a new graphics card check out the 750 ti.

when i go to "can you run it" it says my graphics card is good enough to run it without a problem and skyrim requires 1GB dedicated ram and mine is 1024MB so idk how it isnt good enough.

would this graphics card get me 60 fps on skyrim with high settings?

You put a decent system together, but you went cheap on the two most important things in the system... The power supply and the video card.

I generally say you should spend the more than the cost of your CPU on your video card. And then you need to find a high quality power supply for your system, that is high enough capacity to run the entire system with power to spare.

So based on that, you should spend about $230-$250 on a video card. And then that is probably going to want a good 500+ watt power supply. Best deal out there on a 520 watt power supply right now is the Seasonic S12II 520 watt 80+ Bronze unit for $54.99 at Newegg.com.

If not it would be very close. Without a doubt, you would get above 50 fps.

It seems like you have to pay over a thousand dollars just to play skyrim on high settings at 60 fps.

No, in fact not even close. You could easily build a computer that did it for $600. It's just all about choosing the right parts for your system.

I am not standing by that build full heartily. Anyone who can make it better, please do.

i see. that still sucks that i already spent so much. would this computer build you are suggesting play newer games like ark survival evolved at high settings with 60 fps as well?

That EVGA 600B power supply is not what I call a real good power supply. We recommend that people buy a Tier 1 or 2 power supply on the Power Supply List kept here on Toms. And the EVGA 600B is tier 3.

I just looked for the best price I could find on that EVGA 600B unit. $51.98. Add $3.01 to that, and you can get a top of the line Seasonic S12II 520 watt unit for $54.99 @ newegg.com.

Just wait until you can upgrade your PSU and Video Card.

I went to pcpartpicker.com and put together a system based for the most part on what Sherbetaddict posted above.

I upgraded the memory to faster memory with lower latency plus 2 sticks so dual channel could be used, added Windows 7, a good hard drive, upgraded the video card to the brand new (just released last week) GTX 950, and the Seasonic 520 watt power supply I mentioned above.

Here is a link to the system at pcpartpicker.com: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/FK2RP6

Base Total: $675.47
Mail-in Rebates: -$30.00
Total: $645.47

Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor are not included in the above.

You should have gotten less ram, maybe a cheaper CPU, and a better power supply and GPU, that GPU is not very good.

the stuff from your partlist seems alright. i wouldnt need to buy windows, i have a windows 8.1 i can tranfer over to it. i might just save up for a good power supply and the 300 and some dollar graphics card. what is a good power supply that can run my current build but with the 300 dollar graphics card?
