Hi,

I currently use AMD system in my gaming pc but wanted to upgrade/change the entire system to Intel based, but only use my old SSD as boost drive. The question is would the software be working properly on my new system or do I have to buy a new OS and install it.

Thanks

If your version of windows is oem you'll need to buy a new license and do a clean reinstall with the upgrade. If it's retail you won't need to buy a new license but you'll still want/need a clean install to ensure a stable system.

What? Why?

I dont see any problems here. Just put your SSD/HDD in your new system and it will work. Everyone does that when buying a new system.

Edit: At least it worked for me. Changed pretty much anything and kept my old HDD with Win7.

First, doing that is against the terms of service for Windows. It is also a violation of your terms of service here on Toms to discuss any illegal or illegitimate use of it.

2nd....just because you were able to do it, doesn't mean that everyone can do it, or has the know how to do it. Even with Windows 7/8/8.1 you still have a good chance of not detecting the motherboard and giving it the proper drivers and corrupting the whole operating system.

lol how is that illegal? We are talking about Win7 not 95. In 99,99% of all cases it should detect the new mobo and install new drivers without any issues. If not then he will just get a blue screen. Then he can swap his drive back to his old PC, do some minor changes (http://scottiestech.info/2010/03/17/upgrade-your-motherboard-without-reinstalling-your-os/) and he's fine to put it back in his new pc.
