I am a bit confused here ... I am buying a new config and can't decide what the Motherboard should be. I need no special features or slots. My only concern is stability and reliability/quality of the components.

Many people advice H97 Anniversary, but i think the PRO4 is better for a small price change. Am i wrong?

I do want to keep it ATX. Not for the extra slots but for convenience. I just like more room and if i decide to go for aftermarket cooler - less problems and more space between the GPU.

CPU will be i5 4460 or Xeon E3 1231V3.

Thanks in advance :)

That's a good question. If you don't trust ASRock, then $20 more for the Gigabyte is worth it. I use an ASRock H7 Performance in my PC and a Gigabyte Z97X SLI in my son's PC. Since both are stable, I can't say which one is better; a Gigabyte in an older system has been stable for at least 3 years. The ASRock H97 Pro4 and H97M Pro4 are quite popular to run VMware ESXi since they apparently are quite stable and they have a good BIOS for virtualization.
If 4 SATA ports are enough, then the Asus H81 Gamer is fine. There isn't much difference between the H97 Pro4 and the H97 D3h (audio is slightly better). I wouldn't consider the B85 Killer; the Intel LAN controller is better. The H97 Pro includes a better audio solution and a better LAN controller than the H97 Anniversary.

Thank you, that's good to know. One last question - besides features, is it worth the 20$ extra for GB D3H over PRO4? I mean quality wise ... I haven't used Asrock boards in ages, and when i did, they were not very good so i still can't seem to trust that brand ...
