My Gpu is kinda weak and i'm having growing concerns about how long i'll be able to use it before it will be so outdated it won't be able to run current gen games. I was considering a gtx 970 or a radeon r9 290 but I don't know if my pc would even work with them any help is appreciated thanks.
Computer specs:
Model: Asus Desktop PC M51BC Series
Processor: AMD FX 8300 8 core
Ram 8 GB
GPU: Asus GTX 650 1 GB
That's all I know about it wish I could tell you more. Please leave suggestions as a reply thanks.

Is your pre-built Asus one of these: https://www.asus.com/us/Desktops/M51BC/
If so, it has a "500W" PSU, but that is just its total watts. To be sure you can run a faster card, you need to examine the nameplate on the PSU. The +12V section is the important category for gauging the capacity of the PSU to handle a powerful gfx card. Either tell us the amps and watts listed for the +12V rail(s) or post a pic of the nameplate.
