Hey guys, I have a Seagate backup+ slim 2tb hard drive and it contains movies, tv shows, song videos and trailers..... The hard drive is half full and it never got slow........ Until I installed gta san Andreas in it..... I nodded the game extremely and when I opened the game it didn't work and it didn't respond.... The game could not be ended using the task manager and the only way to stop it is to sign out and login again. I did it and then uninstalled the game from my hard drive..... But after this incident the hard drive has become really slow..... Takes a really long time to get detected, cannot be removed, using safely remove hardware option and the transfer speeds which went up to 27mbps is now only going up to 1mb per second..... The hard drive doesn't heat up and no clicking sounds are heard and the hard drive isn't scratched dropped or bumped anywhere.... It's only 2 months since I bought it..... And I don't want to lose any of the data...... HELP ME GUYS.....

First off, if the data is super important, you will want to first try to copy the data to a different drive.

Try downloading SeaTools for Windows. Run a SMART check and then a Short Drive Self Test. If it passes, try the Long test (Will take a several hours). If that passes, you'll have to explore other causes.

there is 1TB worth of data and the hard drive in my computer is only 500GB minus the space windows and my games take up... which leaves about 200GB so backing up is not an option........ and could you also tell me if the long test would take less or more than 8 hours?

You definitely can do a system restore point (can't hurt). I can't say for sure if the long test would take more than 8 hours. I would guess no, but dealing with a hard drive that is running slow, I just can't say.

ok i ran the system restore, the short drive self test, smart test ,the short generic test, the long generic test and it all passed. i did not do the fast or long test under fix all because it warned me about losing data and i dont want to lose my data........ now the portable hard drive working fine, but the hard drive which is in my desktop (samsung 500GB hard drive) failed in all the tests above other than smart test...... is it affecting my portable hard drive?

The good news- it looks like the data on your 2 TB drive is fine. The bad news- your system drive is probably failing. If your Windows drive is failing it can cause different things to hang or run slow (such as your 2 TB Seagate). I think Samsung would have their own diagnostic software for their hard drives. Download that and give it a try. If the 500 GB fails again, replace it as soon as possible.

Is it possible that this will make my portable hard drive fail?
