Problem with HDMI output from video card

Hi, as the title says, I have recently bought my first gaming PC, with a AMD R9 270X GPU and I am having trouble getting a display signal from it to my TV, which I am using as a monitor.

When the card is disconnected, the PC boots as normal, I can access the BIOS menu and windows starts, with the display coming from the Mobo via a VGA cable.

The same happens with an HDMI cable from the Mobo, although I can't increase the resolution above 800x600.

When the card is connected to the Mobo, and to the TV via an HDMI cable, I can see the boot screen, but it isn't centered on the TV screen, and the background which is usually black, is somewhat fuzzy. I can't access the BIOS menu, and when windows should start, the screen is blank, although there is a signal.

I have already tried reinstalling the drivers for the video card, to no avail.

Any thoughts?

Power supply is xfx pro series 550W 80+ bronze 120mm fan PSU, revision number is 6.0 and Bios version is F1d (I think)

I was leaning more towards a problem with the resolution of the TV and the output of the video card? Mainly because the VGA output from the mobo to the TV works fine.

If you are using a dedicated graphic card, you should not use the motherboard's display outputs else you will not be using your gpu.
You plug in all the pcie power slots on the R9 270X?
You could try an update to your motherboard BIOS and see if that will fix it. But in theory, it shouldn't be the fault.

Can you try the R9 270X in another pc?

I know I shouldn't use the mobo's outputs, but I had to, as the HDMI output from the GPU isn't working as it should.

The GPU in itself seems to be powering up fine, the fans spin, all conectors and plugs are in etc.

I won't be able to try the card in another PC until next week, although, perhaps I'm being a bit naive, but I don't believe it is a fault coming from the GPU as it is brand new.

You could be getting a defective card or a defective HDMI port on the card.
If you want to use the onboard graphics for now, install the drivers for it and you should get be able to go higher than 800X600.
