How good is the chance to recover your files back given this situation?

Say you are to do a clean install OS on a 1TB 3.5" mechanical hard drive that has two partitions, one of which is the Win 10 OS(Disk C) and the other is storage(Disk D). Assume you are now doing the clean reinstall OS(Win 7) on it and deleted all the partitions so the HDD got back whole again and clean. And then you got the HDD split back in two again and installed Win 7 on one partition. After that, you've got into the fresh Win 7 desktop and check on "my computer" for the other partition right away, there you found the other partition inaccessible and requiring a quick format so you quick-formatted it. And then you proceed with installing the drivers, microsoft office and anti virus. During the wait, the HDD's owner came all of a sudden and asked you whether his backup files on the storage partition (Disk D) are all good. You then realized that you deleted the former Disk D as you didn't remember being ordered to spare Disk D and the HDD's owner knew it's his fault for not giving you any heads-ups about that and then he wanted you to help retrieve some important backup files back and you agreed to do what you can to help. Any chances? Can apps like Easeus Data Recovery Wizard and Recuva be of help? Ubuntu? anything?

Looking forward to your reply, thank you in advance!

So say there are two culpable people here:
The owner who does not have a backup of his critical data, and did not specify that the D partition should be preserved
and
The PC tech, who went ahead and wiped the whole drive without 1. asking, and 2. not making an image of the existing drive, or at least saving the D partition data elsewhere first, before proceeding.

Might any of the current data recovery tools work? Maybe. Partition Magic, Easus data recovery, etc...
Of course, they might not work.

@usafret Thanks, my friend could've been more detailed when asking whether his client already has all his crucial files backed-up, my friend didn't ask WHERE his client stored the backup files. And regarding the good habit of always making clones before restoring, I'm all for it but I won't say I have it yet so I might've made the same mistake.

Ok so my friend has decided to use Recuva as the tool and now he's faced with two confusing options, one is for making an image beforehand and is recommended by the app and the other for initiating the file restore. Will it be safer to make images first or otherwise?

Thanks bro, already did, I have to say though recuva is kind of lousy. During the scan it says it has 3 stages to get through( stage1 of 3) and already detected 185740 files but it would just stop scanning when the stage 1 is 100% after taking like 2 hours and the result was just 4332 of .png files instead of 185740 it claimed to have found, I selected "all file types" before the scan though. Maybe Easeus Data Recovery is better? Can we run two forensic apps simultaneously btw?
