There is no way that it is a bad drive.Because the DVD drive is new.I burned Cds with this drive like 4 or 5 times
only.

"Class" is set to CDROM in -------------------- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}.

But there is no "UpperFilters" or "LowerFilters" seen.So nothing to delete.
Above "Class", there is an entry which says (Default) and in that same line under the heading Data,it is mentioned as (value not set).

The DVD drive icon is seen under ---- (Devices with removable storage) in My Computer. I don't remember if this was the way in Windows Xp which i had before.

DVD drive do show up in the device manager .Under properties in DVD drive ---- DVD Region shows as -----"Current Region: Not Selected". Do i have to select one ?

If you want to use the DVD drive for DVDs, yes, you must select a region and complete the setup of your drive. The easiest way is to grab a dvd movie, put it in your drive, and then open Windows Media Player. It'll prompt you to select a region and then you'll be able to play DVD movies.
