starcraft1 and 2, what genre does it fall under

it is similar as they are both under the strategy genre. civilization is more of a turn based game. starcraft is more of an open war game where you can attack/defend anyone/anything at any time. units can move freely. both games have a main goal of building strong, superior bases/armies and expanding as quickly as possible.
