New data: Ultimate Bood CD - Prime95 v28 Blend test has been running for almost 3 hours. No errors, freeze, restart.
Why does my computer instantly crash while testing on Windows 7 x64 but not on bootable prime95 test?
1st freeze: While playing GTAV, it suddenly froze and had to shut down by pressing the button for several seconds.
2nd freeze: The next day, after the computer was on for 5 hours tried to run a game, froze after 2 minutes.
3rd freeze: Normal mode - Couldn't pass the welcome screen.
4th freeze: Safe mode - 5 minutes after trying to scan the computer for potential viruses.
5th freeze: Normal mode - Unchecked all start-up apps in safe mode, could past the welcome screen but froze after 2 minutes of use.
When the freeze occurs, there is no respond from keyboard (no num lock light respond) no respond from mouse I have to hard reset.
I have 2 computers at my disposal, however, the other one has a really old PSU so I can't really rely on it to test all my components. Nonetheless, I did what I could but I have a few suspicions.
Things I did for troubleshooting:
1. HDD Test with crystaldiskinfo - Good
2. Tested 1 stick of the rams for two passes with memtest86 - no errors (I never tested the other ram and never put it back because I assumed that the tested one works properly and also I wanted to focus on the case that there might be a CPU, PSU or even GPU failure)
3. Formated & Reinstalled the Windows 7 x64 - still freezes
4. Put another GPU on my pc - still froze
5. Put another CPU on my pc and did a Blend test with Prime95 for about 20 mins - no freeze (this looked like a conclusion on the cpu failure, however, this cpu has 2 cores compared to fx 6300, so if my PSU is failing, 2 core CPU couldn't have sucked enough wattage to force a freeze or restart)
6. Put my CPU on another PC, ran blend test, this PC restarted immediately. (but my pc never restarts only freezes)
Now this last step makes it look like I have a faulty CPU but there is a possibility that my CPU sucked so much power that the PSU (very old 350w) of the other PC did a restart? - I'm just assuming)
Extra: I ran a test on prime95 with UBCD on bootable memory stick - the pc was fine for about an hour but I can't remember the exact test name.
MY SPECS:
Using for more than 2 years.
AMD FX 6300 with Stock Cooler - No heat issues
Gigabyte 990xa-ud3
Sapphire HD 7950
Kingston HyperX Genesis XMP 2 x 4 GB 1600 mhz
2 TB Seagate Barracuda
Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus with stock PSU: 750 GX 80+
Here is what I think:
Since I ruled out that the one stick of the rams is healthy, I continued to test my pc with that stick and my pc freezes when my CPU is on it or when my CPU is on the other pc, the other pc restarts.
CPU is probably failing but what do you think?
Should I put the other CPU on my pc and run a torture test on the GPU to see if the PSU is failing?
