hey guys, last week i bought a new system. I was on a tight budget, so i chose every hardware I can get the most buck of. The ram I bought is a single Gskill 4gb 1600, and intend to buy another single gskill 4gb 1600 to make it dual.

What worries me is i think I have made a bad decision about buying one single ram instead of a 2kit ram. I really had not much money left last week, so i bought the single pack, intend to eat ramen and cheap food for the coming week and buy myself another, and I did not know anything about it. So, will buying another 4gb would be okay? btw i noticed that the model no. of the single ram i bought is "12800-CL9S-4GBXL" and the 2kit ones are "12800-CL9D-4GBXL"

cl9s - single, cl9d - dual

it's a coin flip for it working properly in dual channel. most times it works, others it simply does not. with kits you know gskill has tested the 2 modules and they work. if it's possible, it's best to return the 4gb module and buy a kit. the total price should be about the same anyway considering you recover most of the price from the single module.

running 8gb in single channel isn't as bad as advertised either, you'll never notice the difference most likely.

Hello, Ceasar. You will most likely be able to use 2 sticks of single channel ram, but you will not get the benefits of dual channel. That being said, sometimes there are problems. If you want to avoid problems, your best bet is to return the single channel ram for a dual kit. If you cannot do this, then buy another stick of exactly the same type of ram. It will most likely still work. If it does not work, you can try to play around in the bios to get them working together.

If things go horribly wrong and you cannot use the ram, i would suggest selling it all while it is still relatively brand new, then buy a dual set.

Good luck!!
