Hey there, I'm trying to figure out if it's worth upgrading what I have now or buy a new computer itself. I'm on a tight budget so if you guy's have any ideas of how to help me out i'd be grateful!

Specs:

NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+

3.11 GHZ

RAM: 2GB - 32 bit

I know it's not the greatest setup, but it's not the worst.
I'd like to at least be able to run games at Low- Medium graphics (2010- 2015 games).

Solution

At that price you can't get a decent build. You need double that price to get a good gaming rig.
Here is one which you can try. You may change the specs but to game at mid to low settings in 2015 you need these atleast.

if you are aiming at 2010 to 2012 games i would say you can upgrade your gpu to say GTX 650ti which is pretty low price. But that will limit you to play three year old games. At present seeing your specs its better to buy a new pc. So the main question is what is your budget??

You can try this.
It's little above 300($335 actually). But i guess that's all right.
It doesn't have a monitor assuming you'll keep your last one.

u can try Radeon R9 270 graphics one of the best graphics card 2 years ago,and it only cost $110 on ebay
although it's 110 dollars but it's extremely powerful!!you can just buy the graphics card for now, and wait until you have a higher budget and then upgrade the rest...it scores 7830 in 3d mark and geforce 9600gt scores around 1400

my recommendation:
Motherboard: M5A78L
http://
cpu:amd fx8350
http://
gpu:Radeon R9 270
http://
ram:Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB 1866MHz DDR3
http://
budget around $360, try to buy all second hand especially cpu and gpu

should able to run most game in ultra with 25-30 fps

just because u think you are right doesn't mean i m wrong, first Radeon R9 270 out perform your gtx 750 ti, second you chose fx 6300 over fx8350? i m mean lol!! a good cpu is just as important as graphics card in terms of gaming, a underpower cpu will hinder the powerformance of the graphics card, so lets say if he upgrade a high end graphics card in the future your fx 6300 will bottleneck the graphics card.

Only gpu second hand is required...and the fact that pc hardware are extremely durable,it wont break unless you overclock it.The last gpu and cpu i had were all 2nd hand and they last me 4 years and still function perfectly, then i sell them for better gears. The only thing you dont buy 2nd hand is powersupply

However, i highly recommend you just to upgrade the graphics card due to your tight budget!and maybe upgrade your ram to 4gb as well.and you can save money to upgrade an i7 for gaming in the future. Because i7 is optimized for gaming.Just by grading the graphics card would vastly improve the gameplay's fps!! And r9 290 is the best bang for the bucks!! I dont think there are any other gpu out that can beat it with the price $200!!!

r9 290 isn't a choice for him. The AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ would hugely bottle neck That card.

God daniel, i felt like u didnt read what i was saying! Just because r9 290 is the lastest high end graphics card, it is powerful! So you dont have to upgrade it again !!!yes i mean cpu will bottleneck the gpu,but thats y i suggest him to upgrade to i5-4690k in the future when he got the money!!so he got a far more superior pc rathar than buying amd cpu that limit the performance of gaming. But even with the bottlenecking, he will still experienced huge improvement in gaming fps!!
