Hello everybody!

I have been using a GoFlex 1 TB without trouble for some years now.

Today I became unable to access its files. Windows 7 does identify the disk but no files or directories are listed on Explorer. I had 800Gb of data but when I click "properties" Windows says the disk size is around 200Mb and that some 20Mb are free.

The Seagate Dashboard application does identify the disk has having 800Gb of data.

What's wrong here? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Welcome to the community, halopes!

I'd suggest you to try to un-hide your files and folders from the external HDD. Here's a tutorial about Windows 7 that might help you with the procedure: http://www.wikihow.com/Unhide-Folders-in-Windows-7
If that doesn't help, I'd suggest you to try assigning a different drive letter to the hard drive from Disk Management. You can take a look at this article from our KB that explains the step-by-step to this one as well: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=xzghwl

Hope it helps. Keep me posted! :)

Thanks for your help.

I did nothing other than let the GoFledx HD turned off during the night. This morning I turned it on and everything was working as usual.

I noticed the HD was hot when I lost access to the files. Could that be the reason? I wonder if the HD will fail soon.

Hi again, halopes!

If you are concerned about the health of your external HDD, I'd strongly recommend checking it using the manufacturer's diagnostic tool. It will help you determine that as well as the SMART data status. You should be able to find this software on their website.
I'd also recommend you to do a backup of the data stored there, just in case. This way you'd prevent a potential data loss.

Good luck! Hope I was helpful. :)
