Hello everyone!

I posted here some time ago i was having throttling issues with my FX6100 running in a M5A78L-M LX motherboard, but noone could help me =(
So, i just googled (a loooot) and find that my mobo could be the problem, the board is weak and not designed for AMD FX series, so it couldnt deliver enough power for the cpu.
Then i decided to buy a new board, temporally running with my FX6100 but later i will get a FX83** CPU, but i cant afford boards like Asus Sabertooth or Crosshair for the moment, then the bests one i could find on good prices (for now xD) are:

MSI ATX AMD AM3+ 970 GAMING
ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0

I read that both are 6+2 p. phase, and some people said that the vrms of MSI is weak, and other peoples said that they improved the vrm of their boards... I dont know MUCH about mother boards, but i think they can handle a FX 8320 (for the future) and so my FX6100 now (maybe with a O.C to 4.0ghz it's all what i want for now), i have a case with good airflow, 2 case coolers and a water cooler for the CPU.

Then, can someone please help me? Wich one is best recommended for my cpu?

My current specs:

AMD CPU FX6100
Asus M5A78L-M LX
8 GB Ram
GPU R9 270
PSU Corsair CX600

(Sorry for my bad english)

You'll have no throttling issues mate - it has the same vrm set as the 970-ud3p which is my number one choice of boards in its Price point when it comes to overclocking.

When you get it be sure to drop in bios & enable hpc (high performance computing mode) under M.I.T advanced settings for max performance - its off by default & causes weird down throttling issues.

I bought a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 mother board and it is great. Its a little more expensive then the ones you listed but it performs well. I have My FX-8320e overclocked to 4.2ghz with no problems. It also has SLI and Crossfire support for future Graphics cards. I will support pretty much all FX series chips out there and it has the 990 Bios that will support Vishera CPU's typically without updating the bios right away. Worth the $30 or $40 price increase. You won't be disappointed.

Yes, i was looking for a 990 chipset, but unfortunately here in Brazil, the price of a GA-990FXA-UD3 is $225 and the boards i listed costs less than $160 (converting our currencies to dollar), and that is the max i can pay for at least the next 3 (or more) months, worth the wait?

*I dont plan to overclock the fx83** if i buy one, but i will overclock my fx6100 once i get new board :)

Personally it would be worth the wait but its your choice. It would have no issues overclocking your FX_83** and your FX-6100 if you so choose to do so. I am not sure what the deal is with currencies for you but i paid about $110 US for mine. For the features that you get i say that this board is worth the wait.

So i made some balance in a shop nearby, and i can buy a GA-990XA-UD3 (its not the GA-990FXA-UD3 you sugested) for almost the same cost of a Asus M5A97, i've read in the gigabyte web site and they point this board as having 8+2 p. phase, do you think its a good board compared to the one you suggested?

Nothing between the boards really - both will run an 8 core fine mate.

Yeah, but i wont have some throttling or bottleneck because of the 970 chipset?

Thats what i thought. Thank you for helping me mate!

Then thanks guys, i actually bought the GA-990XA-UD3 because of the 8+2 power phase, this board costs almost the same as the others i listed and they are 6+2 phases.

Thanks so much everyone who replied and helped me, really!

If this thread will not be locked, i will reply again soon to confirm if the new board solve my throttling issues with the FX 6100, just to help other people having similar problems and end up here :)

Thanks again! :D

Re-opening the thread... And unfortunately with bad news...
Today i got my GA-990XA-UD3, and my performance (as discussed in one of my threads earlier) stills bad. On EVERY game that demands more CPU than GPU i get real bad FPS (20~40) and this happens when the cpu is supposed to get more load but it reduces itself usage.
I tested with the game Insurgency, i created a lobby for bots and when i enter the game my fps goes to 200+, only when i'm alone at the server, when the bots join my fps drops drastically to 20~40 instantly (when it happens, my CPU and GPU usage drops below to 30%). But in games that demands more GPU than CPU my fps is fine (120+), like Dying Light, Battlefields, etc..

I enabled the HPC on BIOS as suggested by madmatt30, disabled turbo-core, c6 state and APM but nothing helps... :(
