My Fangbook will boot to a DVD, but NOT a CD . . . is this a new thing, or is this just my computer?

I've just noticed. My laptop from Cyberpowerpc has no issue detecting the optical drive when there's a Windows install DVD in it. But when I put in the Windows repair boot CD, the drive doesn't even show up on the boot menu for some reason.

Is this something that's starting to happen, that optical drives are not registered during post to boot from unless it detects a boot disk inside of it? And then is it only allowed to boot to DVD's, no longer CD's?

Well, it's a proper boot CD made by a Windows 8 operating system.

Solution
No, any detected bootable media will boot or give you the option to boot, as long as the drive is designated as the first boot device in the bios, or when no other bootable media or drive is present. CD's will boot same as DVD's. If it doesn't, either the device is not selected as the boot drive, or there is a problem with your media. It may not have the proper bootable format.
