Sudden PC slow down, maybe RAID card to blame.

Hi.

Long time not asking questions, forgot how to do it.

PC specs in my signature plus SYBA SY-PCI40010 PCI SATA II (3.0Gb/s) 4 Port, which is not installed as RAID, but adding 4 more hard drives to the system. Win7 Home 64 bit.

For some strange reason my PC suddenly slowed down - boot time, cold or not, increased at least twice, and I can not get into BIOS, it is so slow, like a snail. I can actually can get to BIOS, but response time so slow, that I have to wait for more than a minute for the response from keyboard to change in BIOS screen, it is like freezes.

No new hardware installed in the past, maybe half year, maybe even more, except hard drive shuffle in the case, but I even tried to keep the same SATA connectors.

When OS fully booted, everything seems to be fine, as before.

The only thing, which happened in the past - I was remodeling my place and this PC was off, completely disconnected, for at least 1 month, otherwise, no power spikes (I have at least one surge arrest protector in the power line), nothing. And I am not running any intensive applications for a long time, so no additional stress applied to PC.

So, if anyone have any ideas about which hardware part can be blamed for this, feedback really appreciated.

I can add another strange thing. My front USB 2.0 connectors suddenly slow down to miserable 10 mb/s, however back connectors are still about 25 mb/s. Is it happened at the same time as BIOS began freezing and boot time increased, I can not say for sure, but most likely.

The only external added part, which originally increased boot time, was RAID card (because it is PCI plain, not PCIE x1, so bandwidth is shared), but when I installed this card, everything was working fine.

So, unless someone can come up with better idea, I am considering changing this card to PCIE x1 (from PCI).

I was able to locate (apparently not so many possibilities exist with at least 4 internal SATA connectors below $100) SIIG Storage Controller SC-SA0T11-S1, which has onboard SATA connector.

Second question is - can I just move my Intel SSD to this PCIE RAID card without complete reinstal of my OS (this is my boot drive), or not?

This picture will show what I mean (just an example)

Any suggestions and opinions appreciated.

I had something similar happen to me a long time ago where the whole system was just sluggish even after Windows fresh install and such. My problem was the chipset heatsink was detached so all the vital systems USB,PCI expansions were being throttled and delayed.

Can you elaborate better - you meant that CPU cooler got detached, like loosen screws or similar? Or your motherboard CPU socket got pulled out?

Not the CPU the Chipset. They controll USB connections and audio conections and the PCI and PCI E bus (generally) if the heatsink is detached off it or just loose its probably why.

It is actually Dell. Those boards generally last more than 5 years, I got about 2 more years to go at least.

I am thinking about RAID card, because I know that PCI RAID card generally known for slowing down boot time, and this is what happened when I installed this, but boot speed of this PC is not much important - this PC is basically giant archive and point of entry for any nasty things.
My second PC based on Asus Maximus VII Hero somehow exhibits similar slow down of the front USB, and motherboard is less than 1 year old. But it is still on warranties all over, so I will deal with this when time comes.
