I just realised that I might be using the wrong RAM frequency (HyperX Savage 2x4 2400mhz) for my motherboard. I have a Gigabyte GA-Z97-SLI board but can't seem to find any info on the gigabyte website referring to my situation. If anyone can help me out that would be great! :)

No worries, you just need to enable XMP mode in the bios.

Your motherboard supports DDR3 3000(O.C.) / 2933(O.C.) / 2800(O.C.) / 2666(O.C.) / 2600(O.C.) / 2500(O.C.) / 2400(O.C.) / 2200(O.C.) / 2133(O.C.) / 2000(O.C.) / 1866(O.C.) / 1800(O.C.) / 1600 and 1333 Mhz. All these frequencies are supported. OC means over-clockable. All those rams having 'O.C.' means that they can be overlocked and can also be run in its normal speed. So according to me your RAM frequencies are fine with your board.
