PSU for a 980ti

Hi all,

Recently I decided to upgrade my GTX 570 to a GTX 970 but I changed my mind and decided to go for the 980ti instead.

My current spec:
CPU: Intel i5-3570K(stock clock)
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 570 HD, 1280MB DDR5
RAM: KINGSTON 8GB DDR3 1333MHz
PSU: Corsair GS600 600W
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H, Intel Z77, mATX

I am planning to go with the EVGA 980ti SC+ ACX 2.0+ variant. The PSU I am looking to upgrade to is the EVGA G2 SuperNova 750watt.

So the main question is is 750watt enough with my current rig plus a single 980ti?

Those minimum recommendations are mostly for people using poor quality power supplies and older/more power hungry computers that they're upgrading with the new graphics card. The GTX 980 Ti doesn't use enough power to warrant a better PSU than what you have (it isn't some Raidmax or Logysis trash) considering the rest of your components (you aren't running an overclocked FX-8150 or i7-920).

The EVGA G2 SuperNova 750W is a better bet as the minimum power requirement for a GTX 980 Ti is 600 Watts. Just play it safe as a PSU at the minimum requirements might cause issues, which I've experienced before. But great choice of the GPU, I got the same one two days ago. :)

Cheers for the replies. I am pretty split between going for a better/higher power PSU or staying with the current one.

I will save a bit of cash if I don't upgrade the PSU since the 980ti is not a cheap card at all. However like the previous poster said the minimum requirement for the 980ti is 600 watt and having more overhead is a good idea.

Less than 400W consumed in a torture test and a very intensive game with a CPU that uses a lot more power than your i5-3570K, especially when you're at stock clocks. You'll probably see around 300W to 350W used in gaming and you don't need an EVGA B2 750W PSU for that. Even if you want a roughly 50% overhead to be safe like I often recommend, your 600W model should be plenty.
