My i5 4690k is running very slow and i don't know why? Is anyone else having a similar problem but running games which require 2ghz cpu, mine still seems to struggle to play it. I have got a 980 gtx graphics card so that shouldn't be the problem! Also to check if it then CPU, I done a few browser games which are purely cpu, and they seemed to run with some problems. Also I checked my internet speed and it was 35+mb download so that wasn't the problem. If anyone has had similar problems please can you help me thanks.

When you state that the CPU is running slow for games, do you mean that the CPU is running at 10% or do you mean that it is running that the CPU is running at 100% and the games are slow ?

Have you verified that there are no other apps running (Windows Task Manager) ?

What OS are you using and have you OC'd your CPU ?

Are you sure that that there is not a virus running that is eating up your CPU cycles ? (If there could be a virus, do a fresh install.)

I have done a fresh install about a week ago with a brand new operating system (wiped my pc)

My CPU was running at like 60% (just the game) and wouldn't yeild max fps even on lower graphics

I make sure to keep the things running to the very minimum and i do keep a check on the task manager

I was using windows 10 but i reverted to 7 as i didn't like 10!

I have a pentium g3258 CPU which I did overclock, however I reset my mobo settings and updated my bios before and after I put the i5 CPU in.

Most of the time, games are waiting on the video card, not the CPU. A CPU typically will be running at some fairly low percentage when gaming, while the video card is doing most of the work.

Have you set a power saving profile in the BIOS or in Windows?

Most of the time it's through your motherboards' BIOS. Depending on what motherboard you have it should come with utilities that will allow you to access the BIOS through Windows. Otherwise good utilities are CPU-Z and 3D Mark.
