hi there, just wondering if anyone can help me with my new gaming PC build, i have chosen the parts i would like and believe they all fit together with no problems. although i do have some questions about some of the parts. these are the specs as follows. also i would like to know if there is any better options than what i have chose, im trying to keep my budget around £1,500 GBP.

Case - NZXT H440 ATX Mid Tower (Blue/Black)

CPU - Intel i7 5820k

CPU Cooler - Cooler Master hpyer 212 evo
(now ive heard this cpu cooler is amazing for the price and got really good reviews all thoguht many people have said its too tall... is this still a good choice or can you recoomend something different ?)

MotherBoard - Asus x99-S ATX (I know there are others of the x99 series such as x99-a and x99-deluxe. i dont know whats different about them, could you tell me but have i made a good choice with value for money ?)

RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws 4 Series 3200 4x4Gb (16GB)

Storage - Samsung 850 evo 1TB SSD (am i ok using just an ssd as my storage ? or should i go for a hard drive ?)

GPU - Asus GTX Strix 980

PSU - Evga supernova 1300w G2

many thanks if you can help.

well these are the parts i am looking at, i was looking at the 1000w psu but theres like a £10 difference between that and the 1300w PSU, and what is the x99-s a bad choice for gaming ?

X99 does not help with gaming unless you are doing a 3 way SLI. I would look at Skylake as it is better for gaming. Watch this unbiased test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHzg3YeE28A

Also your PSU should be in the range of 550w. If you want to SLI and overclock 850w will do. Get the 750w ONLY if you plan to SLI and get the 850w ONLY if you plan to SLI and overclock. If you want the 550w that would be for NON SLI. And lastly get the 650w if you want a GTX 980 Ti.

but will it be a performance problem if i do have more like 1000w psu or a porblem to my pc and is there any good asus motherboards you can think of around £200 ? ive never heard of a skylake, i will be upgrading parts in the future on this build though, i plan to dual sli 908's in the future, add more ram etc....

1000w makes no difference over 550w if your PC only will use 550w. I edited my last post with information.

If by all means you have the cash go ahead but the parts you likely will get only use 550w so it is pointless to spend more on extra power that will be wasted.

ok thankyou so much for your help, i appreciate that, i really dont mind spending the extra cash on a 1000W psu as it should last me then with upgrades to come.... would you defo say look for a new motherboard though ? i do want to stick with asus on motherboards.

Gigabyte, ASUS, ASRock are all great motherboards. No need to change if you don't want to they are all pretty much the same anyway. My pick has been Gigabyte because of the all around cost / reliability / features / performance. ASUS is generally a bit more expensive but has a few more features. Some are useless but others are useful depending on what you do.

ok i have done some re thinking and took some of your advice how does this look to you ?

This still seems better value for your money. I would go with ether the ASUS card or the EVGA one no difference there. With this build you are getting much more value. The RAM is useless for 4X4GB and at 3200 for gaming is pointless. RAM over 2133 has less than a 1% effect on games. The difference from 1600-2133 is about 2 fps at most. Also 4x4 is slower than 2x8 with dual channel RAM. Plus you get a nicer cooler and nicer case plus all the parts are RED to match. It seems like a no brainer to get the build below to me but to each his own. If you wanted a different color scheme I could make one up but your build seems wasteful in the wrong areas. The Enthoo Pro is one of the best cases looked at today period and I have its sister case the Luxe and it is much better than the NZXT or Corsair 750D. Once again if you get more than 1-2 fps difference with the RAM I would be shocked. With Z170 the RAM operates in dual channel so 2 sticks is faster than 1 or 4 sticks. 4 sticks just puts more stress on the memory controller.
