I collect and assemble a lot of computer junk and one of my ongoing problems is the multi card readers. I have 5 of them from HP or E-machines that plug into the usb pins on the motherboard and they don't work. I can see the power and data designations on the boards and know they match the plugs on both ends. Sometimes when I plug them in it will "Installing new hardware" and load a driver for each slot but the SD slot doesn't work. Sometimes other slots like the sony memory stick work, or the USB port will work, but without the SD slot working it is kinda useless. These are several different readers on a couple of different motherboards from HP or Intel usually a P4 or Celeron running Windows 7. I'm confused the same problem is happening with all the different pieces.

Hello... 1)Check your security options for such 'Devices' as they are defined as potential intrusion into your OS, and files.

There are lot of old card readers which support SD cards but not the latter hd and XD cards. I believe SD standard stops at 2 GB
What capacity SD card are you using to test the SD card slot
