Hi,

I have already bought Intel Core i5-3470 processor and now I am in the process of selecting a compatible motherboard.

If you go on this link - http://ark.intel.com/products/spec/SR0T8 - and click find compatible boards in the right side, it takes you to a list of motherboards compatible with this processor.

I see other Asus boards like Asus H61M-F there but not the Asus H61M-K.

Is Asus H61M-K, link here, not really compatible with this processor? On the list of supported CPU's on Asus H61M-K website, I see that this processor is supported.

Then why do the intel not put this motherboard in their compatibility list?

Is it really compatible?

Thanks very much!

It will be compatable if you update the bios to the newest revision. If intel listed EVERY single motherboard compatible it would be a headache for them. Its upto the Motherboard manufacture to support cpu's and list that they do not intels.

As long as the BIOS on the motherboard is version 0306, then yes the i5-3470 will be supported.

However, if the BIOS is an older version, then you will need to install a supported Intel CPU that the motherboard will recognize so that you can update the BIOS and allow you to use the i5-3470. So basically there is a possibility that the Asus H61M-K will not be compatible with the i5-3470 right out of the box.

I think it is safer to simply buy a motherboard that can support the i5-3470 right out of the box without having to worry about getting screwed.
