Hello,
So i got my Satellite Internet set up 2 days ago and i see that even though the modem synchronizes at 20mbps(So do Speedtests) i only download with 1,8-2,2mbps from FTP sites and such while when i try to download Torrents or view videos on youtube or any site for that matter my internet speed is 50klbps/300klbps respectively.

I contacted my ISP and asked if they are throttling my speed but they told me that was not the case, when i asked what was wrong they told me everything seemed fine. As i stated to the IT deprtment the torrent speed was barely 50klbps(he told me he had satellite on his house and everything was working properly). Some other guy from IT told me to try port forwarding but it seems that my router won't port forward(Technicolor 788vn v2).

Can someone please help me cause VPN is not an option for me and i can't even stream a video properly...!!!

Not sure where to start. Likely the problem is the high latency and the application. Most things that use TCP have major issues. Although over simplified the server will send you a block of data and it will wait for the response. If the response is 500ms (no uncommon on satelite) you can only transfer 2 of these blocks of data /sec. Using the default block size of 16kbytes you get a bit rate of 256mbit.

There are ways to improve to a point but all suffer from the huge distance all the way up to a satellite and back.

You want to use utorrent if you can. It uses UDP which does not suffer as bad from the latency but it still does greatly affect it. Torrent still uses tcp to talk to the partners so that causes delays also.

There are ways to test this with UDP to really see the max rates you can get but it does not do a lot of good because it is very artificial. Now if video was really "streamed" using UDP it would be something to look at but almost all video streaming is using TCP and large delay buffers to keep traffic smooth.

I understand what you are saying but the problem is sometimes throughout the day torrents might download with 300klbps other times with 50klbps and other times reach their peak at 2,2mbps and then fall to 50klbps(after 20 seconds or so) which doesn't make sense... Also the guy i talked to told me he had satellite aswell and everything worked smoothly...

To be perfectly honest i am freaking out cause i moved out of the city and i had a 50Mbit connection and now i have Satellite at 20Mbit which is fine if i could utilize it and over 650ms latency so as i stopped playing games i said it was fine i will just download a movie or watch some videos on youtube on my free time but now that is taken away as well and i am paying a fair amount of money for a connection that provides nothing other than 20mbit and 20gb bandwidth/month and unlimited from 23:00-07:00... I am literally starting to freak out and i don't know what to do...

Look for a wireless ISP....they put equipment on thing like water towers and then use direction equipment on the house. You could also look for a cell company that has LTE coverage. It will be expensive but if you are in a good coverage area LTE is fast and has pretty low latency. Unfortunately most charge in the $10/gigbyte range and you can easily eat more than that streaming video in a hour.

Right now torrent speed keeps fluctuating from 450klbps to 1,2mbps... I don't get what the problem is one hour it's 50klbps the next is 700klpbs so that means that the latency is not an issue something else is wrong...
