Migrating HDD to SSD problems

I'm trying to migrate the contents of my HDD, including OS, to my SSD. My SSD came with Acronis which I planned on using to clone my old drive to my new one. I've run into a few problems though:

1. After I installed my SSD, the icon contains a yellow disk (see link). Is this a problem? Did I install the SSD incorrectly?

2. Using Acronis, I get an error message saying Acronis ran into a fatal error, and I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the problem above.

Is there some alternative software I should use instead of Acronis? Any solutions to these two problems would be great. Thanks.

Hey there, prwler.

First, if you haven't backed up all of your important data, which you might have on the HDD, I'd suggest that you do it now. I don't really know why the icon is yellow, but it seems like the SSD is fine - it's properly recognized and its partition is OK. As for the fatal error, is there any more info about the error itself, or this is the only message you get? You could try connecting the SSD to a different SATA port and with different SATA cables, to see if the same thing happens.
As for another option, you could take a look at this tutorial on how to migrate your OS from an HDD to an SSD: http://lifehacker.com/5837543/how-to-migrate-to-a-solid-state-drive-without-reinstalling-windows. It also has useful tips on how...
