The one is the Asus Z170 PRO GAMING, and the other is the Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming7 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard. Are there any major differences? Can someone explain what's different other than the color? How many power phases do they have? I tried making a comparison on PCpartpicker but it isn't very good on the details.

Thanks.

Well on the Asus, I counted 10 phase VRM. On Gigabyte I counted 10+1. More isn't generally better, per-se, unless you're going to do overclocking. Both will be great boards for you. The main difference is the price as both use the same chipset, share those features (DDR4 RAM and the Skylake goodies). I think it comes down to how much you're willing to pay, provided you don't have brand loyalty. I am fond of Gigabyte's products, but Asus makes a good board too. I think for this though, I'd go Asus and save the money for something else.

If you aren't an audiophle, and don't have 7.1 surround speakers or something equivalent, then don't waste money on getting a more expensive motherboard for the audio chipset. I can guarantee that you won't here a difference, so save some money by buying the ASUS.

Obviously it's going to be hard to figure that out until you try it. Both will be real good either way. They are both high-end board and will give you a great result. I will say that if I were to make an educated guess as to which is more fully featured with audio, it would be Asus.
