What could be causing my games to stutter?

So I just got a new computer and it's awesome, it's just in some games I get some annoying FPS drops/stutters and I'm not sure why. I can play games like project cars, hitman absolution, battlefield 4 and GTA V (used to play good until that crappy update came out) with no issues.
Then if I wanna play some less demanding games, i keep getting these periodic stutters. and these games shouldn't even tax my GPU (GTX 980) and these are games like Chivalry: Medieval warfare, Skyrim, This War of Mine, Insurgency, Payday 2 is really bad, and I think Dishonored only does it when it saves. metal gear solid: ground zeroes does it too but I haven't really messed around with the settings to see if I could fix it. Anyways, what's going on here? Is my GPU borked or something, or is it just the games?

Solution
yeah if its a few fps like that no thats normal. I also strongly doubt you can really visually/noticeably tell the fps drops of 60 to 57. If you play an mmo like skyrim expect some fairly decent drops when you enter a town or go to a highly populated area as well as extra characters and loading large areas of maps or building can cause that to happen. If you're going from 60 fps to dropping to 30 then shooting back up i'd say cpu issues but you're running a 4790k even at stock its a great cpu. Gl and have fun gaming, dont worry about fps drops to much if their minimal like that.

well what settings are you running these games on? If you just set the sliders to ultra without knowing what the do you can expect some fps drops. Also what's the rest of your system spec psu, cpu, motherboard, ram etc. You can always try re uninstalling/re-installing drivers as well. When was the last time you updated your geforce drivers?

I turned down the settings in Chivalry, Skyrim, Insurgency, Payday 2,This War of Mine, Metal Gear, and it still happens. I have an Asus Z97 Wi-Fi motherboard with a Corsair HXi PSU (750 W i think), i7 4790k (nothing overclocked) and Corsair Vengance 16GB ddr3 ram. I think my PC should be able to handle those games without any issues. and I updated my drivers when the new one for Ashes of Singularity came out. Then I downgraded back to an old one to see if it is driver related, though it still persists. Everything else is updated

Oh okay. Well it's usually 60 to 58/57 when it stutters, not big drops. I wasn't sure if it was normal as i'm new to PC gaming. Though it does happen in some games more than others, like Chivalry. My brother can run it without jitters, though the FPS tanks sometimes, but he does have a little older card (670) but the game's not really demanding at all, and i'm not sure what settings he runs his games at. Anyway thanks, I'll stop obsessing over this now.

Well in some FPS games it can be noticeable because it's like a freeze or a 'hitch' i guess for about a fraction of a second, but you're right, it is hard to notice most of the time. i usually create problems where there aren't any. Thanks again.

Fussing over details happens to the best of us. Yeah trust me if you just turn off the fps counter you won't notice it. GL gaming.
