Current build -
GTX 980
i7-3770
8 GB RAM
Gigabyte H77-D3H-MVP
256gb SSD
1TB HD
RM650W PSU
Phantom 410 Case

My mobo and ram are quite old and I'm currently having performance issues with low fps and just all round bad performance. Since I'm upgrading my mobo and ram I thought I may aswell keep everything to up to date and get a CPU aswell.

The place where I order all my parts from have a bit of a bundle going on and looks pretty good. I'm looking for opinions though.

Link to bundle -

This is all AUD
cheers.

bad performance on what exactly? An i 3770 or 3700k shouldn't be a bad cpu by any stretch. And 8 gigs of ram should be sufficient for almost any game. Coupled with a 980 you should be getting pretty good frame rates? What games exactly are causing problems?

Hello, you might fill in more information as in what performance issues, because your current build is quite good, but if what you say is true, that your ram/mobo might gotten a bit faulty, then yes, just changing the mobo/ram might not be worth it, although I don't think the newer gen cpu aren't that better performance wise, but then again the features you get are awesome.

The only thing that might bother me from this bundle is the water-cooling loop, because you could cool the CPU with a classic cooler and you'd still get nice temperatures. But then again if the cost is not a problem, go for it, unless someone finds a better bundle/combination [which some people will].

Pretty much my frames aren't bad, averages roughly 80-100fps but still drops below 60 pretty often. CPU heats up to 80c when in-game with stock cooler. I've searched all around the net and posted my problems and nothing fix's it. Low GPU usage is a problem aswell.

CPU is at 80c with stock cooler, my 980 is 60c which is normal under load.

80c? Thats a bit high. Also 80-100fps? Is bad? 60 fps on a 980 on new games is about what you'd expect. I'm running a 980 ti, even on max settings on some games i don't get 60 fps? If you're worried about temps on your cpu why not just buy a non reference air cooler?

Like I said, it drops below 60 frames quite often which shouldn't happen and my mobo/ ram are quite old aswell. Maybe it's just me but I like to keep my parts up to date.
I also have friends with 970's that perform better

I'm currently running an i7 870 from 2010, arguably the first i7 processor, older then ivy bridge. Sure you'll get a performance boost, but i wouldn't say it would be massive or even that noticeable but i plan on jumping to 6700k so i guess time will tell. Just sayn you might not see any or little improvement if you change.

Even if its a stock cooler getting 80 c on a non k series 3770 is bad. Somethings wrong with tim. Maybe look into deli dding and re applying new paste, or just going straight delided with a custom water block.
