While checking power to new motherboard without cpu or memory installed all was well meaning fans would start and stop. After installing firewire-usb module, just a short cord from board to rear of case, when power was turned on a brief flash occurred just above the motherboard socket for the ieee-1349 connection. To my way of thinking this should not have happened. Sounds like a defective board to me. No firewire devices were connected to the module. This is a new board and I'm trying to build a case for replacement. I'm sure the manufacture will say CID (customer induced damage)

Calvin,
The module has two wires one goes to the usb connector the other goes to the 1349 connector. It sounds like you think I tried to connect 1349 firewire to the usb connector. No, that was not the case. Usb to usb and ieee 1349 to ieee 1349. When I connected the firewire is when it fried! Power was off when connections were made.
