Okay guys so here is my problem. I play a lot of games but recently I have been having trouble with lag in only 1 of them. Battlefield 4. It doesn't happen right from the off either. I will start the game and play a whole match regardless of the length with no trouble at all. Then, the problem strikes. After the match ends and goes to the scoreboard screen and then loads into the next match either straight away or a few minutes in i get TERRIBLE lag. This is like lag and rubber banding all rolled into one. It also effects my whole PC after closing down BF4 and does not go until I restart my PC.

So lets say I have just had that issue and I have restarted my PC and logged back in. Just loaded Battlefield again and I'm playing a match, no lag at all. Then boom, match ends, I reload into the next match and the lag is back.

Now this is not an issue I have had from when I first started playing the game. It has only arose recently and here is a list of things I have tried that have made no difference:
  • Cleaned all case fans
Cleaned CPU cooler fan and heat sync
Cleaned and replaced CPU thermal compound
Cleaned GPU fans and heat sync
Cleaned and replaced GPU thermal compound
Upgraded to larger HDD (Not something I tried to fix the problem with, just coincidence I have done this during the problem timeline)
Checked Power Setting was set to 'High Performance' and it is
There is nothing else I can possibly think of that I can try next. Temperatures seem to be running normal while playing (GPU: 45° - 65°) (CPU: 45° - 55°). Before replacing the thermal compound on my CPU it was sometimes reaching around 80° but still, now it is down to a comfortable temperature once again, I am still getting the same lag problem. So even though one of the things I have tried did remedy a small issue nothing at all has made an impact on the main problem at hand.

Someone please help me. I will be eternally grateful :)

P.S. I have listed my PC specs below in case you can draw some insight from there.

This is a long shot but next time it happens, don't shut down your computer but open task manager and stop taskhost.exe, then try again. This isn't a fix but it will show if you have a known problem.

Okay so I've come accross the lag part way through the match this time (which is sometimes the case but not often, maybe 1/20 times). Tried closing taskhostw.exe (as thats the only one I had there) and that has done nothing. Temperatures are... CPU: 54° and GPU: 52° which is normal.

Also my OS is Windows 10 Home x64

I'm still stumped!

Well the only browsers I have installed are IE and Firefox. I always use Firefox as I'm not a fan of Chrome. I find Chrome's performance to be a little clunky so I just don't bother trying it anymore. IE is just the slowest browser I have ever seen. My lag isn't actually in the browser though. It happens within the game itself. It is also the only game where I get any lag at all. Once the lag pops up in game it stems out to the rest of my PC after a while.

Sorry. Went off on a bit of a tangent there lol... I use Mozilla Firefox. Not tried any others as I'm not convinced that is the route of the problem as I don't get any other signs of browser lag at all. (My browser is on of course for BF4 for server list, battlescreen, loadouts, etc). But as I originally described, this is not an issue that I have been plagued with from the start. It has only recently came up a few weeks ago. At the time the problem arose I had made no changes to my PC at all. So confused lol

The reason I asked about your browser is that, although I have win 7/64, taskhost writes to a file named webcachev01 and I've had a problem where IE starts lagging bad and I found the only way I could fix it was to kill taskhost or reboot. I tracked the problem to webcachev01 being caught in some sort of loop.
That being said, have you, while your computer is in this lagging state, checked to see if something is using up your memory?

No I actually haven't thought of that. I'll check memory usage on another test later and I'll post my findings. Any sort of percentage level I should be keeping my eye out for? Never had a problem like this before, especially not with 16GB at my disposal lol

As I said before, I have win 7/64, but at my desktop with nothing running, resource monitor says I'm using less than 3 GB of ram. When it happens, check to see if anything is running that you don't recognize or is hogging a lot of memory.
