I'm planning to build a new gaming rig, that will include a MSI Z170 mainboard with i5-6600K CPU, and GPU will be GTX 970/980. Will use it for 2560x1440 gaming mostly.

Now, about RAM, still got some questions.
1) The mainboard supports DDR4, so should I get this one, or DDR3 would be still good enough?
2) How much RAM would be good, 8/16/32 GB?
3) If 16 GB, then 4x4GB or 2x8GB?
4) What speed? (mainboard maximum is 3200 MHz). For example, here in Europe, I can get 16GB at 2133 for <150€, 2400/2666 are between 160-170€, and 2800/3000 is close to 200€.
5) Which CL is best?

What mobo, most all Z170s only support DDR4. Since it's a new build and on Z170 I'd go 16GB in a 2x8GB config, otherwise you'll probably be looking to upgrade to 16GB within a year at most. I'd go 2400 or 2666 anyway, 2133 is entry level for DDR4. Might look at the Ripjaws V or 4, GSkill is also releasing their new Trident Z line shortly

That's why I asked what mobo said most only support DDR4, MSI has a DDR3 also, and we may see more, haven't seen any Hybrids yet that will do either/or and Ferrari mentioned his supports DDR4

Oh, sorry, I kinda misread it earlier.
Well, the Z170s mobos for sale here - DDR3 compatible are <125€, while DDR4 compatibles start at about 125 and can exceed to 200€.
So, now got the new questions:
1) Is DDR4 worth the price?
Anyway, I sort of narrowed it down to 16 GB, as 8 would be too little, and 32 might be bit of overkill now.
2) What are the advantages/disadvantages of 2x8 and 4x4?
If I would go with DDR4, then...
3) Would 2800-3000 be worth the extra cash over 2400-2666?
4) Should I pay much attention to CL, or doesn't really matter if it is 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16?

1. Honestly, I don't think so. I'm sure most people on here will disagree with me though.
2. There is no advantage with going 4x4GB. Just stick with 2x8GB.
3. Only if it is a few dollars difference
4. Yes the lower the CL, the better. 2666mhz CL15 is better than 2666mhz CL16
