Need to rotate AMD heat sink, concerned about paste

Hi, I am working on my first build and after installing my fx6300 (if that matters) I put on the heat sink and locked it down but realized it should be rotated the other way, so that the wire is closer to the pins and doesn't extend over the fan. I lifted it up for just a second and saw some thermal paste on the processor, then locked it back down thinking I Need to replace the paste right away. Is this noob paranoia?
I did this last night, it is now the afternoon and I spent the morning looking for thermal paste but for some dumb reason every computer store in town closes for the weekend, so I would like to know:

Can I rotate it and finish my build and turn it on (hasn't been on yet) and use it for the weekend?
Or because it hasn't been on, will it be harmed at all? I have read conflicting info on this.
or should I just wait for the stores to open(and pay 4 fold what it is online - tiny ddr2 ram sticks are $70, it's bizarre) and reapply?
What are the dangers of running it for a day or two if I've created some airbubbles or uneaven spread?

Thank you.

Solution
Run it, but check the thermal margins with AMD Overdrive to make sure none of the cores gets too hot (0°C thermal margin) at full load. Setting up the system shouldn't cause issues; if need be the CPU will throttle.

Thank you Ghslain. I finished my build and it started up just fine. I have had it on 6 or so hours, doing mostly web surfing and system scans. (Unrelated, CD drive is being odd) The highest temp I have seen is 53 (during a full system Spybot scan), but otherwise I see mostly low 20's, sometimes as low as 17. (According to my "Core Temp" program). At the moment the "Thermal margin" according to AMD overdrive is 50, my current temp 20.

I think I will still replace the thermal paste with artic silver on monday, it was hard to get off to re-position and looked to have lots of air bubbles from prying it apart, which could have flatted I suppose as it wouldn't have been dry yet right? But better safe then sorry. :)
