Hi guys i'm new here and in need of assistance.

It's been awhile since i've replaced a hsf. I've using a stock fan for my i5 3570k for the last two years. Never had any issues rpms were in the 2000 it was loud but i lived with it. I decided to buy the hyper 212 evo to make a silent pc since i'm moving it into my living room.

After Installing it (line method for the paste AS5) and I set my cpu fans to automatic (smart fan mode). I'm using a ASROCK Extreme4 mobo. My target speed is level 2 and my target cpu is 55c.

Well after playing witcher for 30 minutes my fan was making ridiculous loud noise. I use HWM for my temp monitoring it told me this:

CPUTIN 48c

CPUFANIN 1849rpm

core 0 54
core 1 55
core 2 58
core 3 60

Seriously why is my rpms so damn high? Is there anything I can do to keep this thing quiet (thought the hyper 212 evo was super quiet). I'm running my cpu stock so i'm kinda confused about this.

I also did some more monitoring and notice my idle temps are 44c

Idle temps shouldn't be as high as 44c even for a i5 3570k?

I'm serious confused and really sad that my plan on making a quiet pc is failing miserably. Anybody has any good advice?

The hyper212, for all its popularity, is a pain to install, and correctly at that. There is a really good article about it here somewhere, I just can't seem to find it. Seems there is an issue with the center screw, if it's not adjusted right, before installing, then that center screw doesn't put enough pressure on the base of the heatsink, and you get lousy temps.

I'd suggest removing the x-plate, tighten that screw a little, without removing the heatsink from the cpu, then reinstalling in the correct 1-3-2-4 x pattern several times until all screws are tight. Your high idle temps may just be because of the heatsink not making good enough contact with the cpu lid, the paste there still bunched somewhat

Is your hsf connected to your power supply or motherboard?
If it's connected to your motherboard, download SpeedFan and you can use it to monitor your fan's rpms. Just look up some tutorials as it may be a bit confusing, but you can always ask here :)
If it's connected to your power supply, then it'll spin at a constant rate of "loud af" every time you turn your pc on.

I barely hear my Hyper 212 evo when running Boinc at 100% cpu usuage for 24 hours. The temps only reach 55c. Before I added the 212, it was reaching 75c and sometimes 79c. Idle temps were the same, about 30-33c depending on room temperature.

I would go along with what 474.... stated and reapply the thermal paste; I used a drop and not the line method. We don't know your room temperature but in my room that the computer is in, the temp is usually about 73F (or about 23c). The warmer your room temp the warmer your idle and load temps will be also, or conversely, the cooler your room temp the cooler your idle and load temps will be also.
