Im upgrading my components little by little, what i think i should upgrade right now is the ram, but i really don't know much about ram, i currently have 1 stick of 4GB kingston ddr3 ram and i think that is mediocre. I am thinking about getting 12GB of ram. What would you guys recommend me?

If you can, simply get a second stick of whatever model you already have so you can run in dual-channel. Right now, you have a 50% memory bandwidth penalty from having only one channel.

If you put 2x4GB more in, you will be running in interleaved dual-channel which is not going to be quite optimal. You will likely get better performance and benchmark results from scrapping your existing 4GB module.

Go with a 2x4GB set of 1600, then you are guaranteed to have 2 sticks that will play nice, simply adding a stick to what you have provides no guarantees they will play nice, even a stick that is the same exact model. You can try adding the current stick and if it will play nice then you will be in whats called Flex mode, where 8GB will be in dual channel mode and the odd 4 will run concurrently in single channel - which is fine (if they play)
