Which CPU Should I Pick?

    1. 5960X - Max Overclock @ ~4.8GHz; 8 Cores
    2. 5930K - Max Overclock @ Unknown; 6 Cores
    3. 6700K - Max Overclock @ ~5.2GHz; 4 Cores
    4. 4960X Extreme Edition - Max Overclock @ Unknown; 6 Cores

Just wondering which of these CPUs, or some other CPU, would allow for the highest frame rate in modern FPS games. Now yes, it would be easy to say that at stock clock speeds the 6700K wins hands down because it has the fastest clock speed per core and enough cores for pretty much every game available, that's obvious. But I want to know which one would come out on top at their highest overclocked speeds using air cooling or a simple closed loop only, NO LIQUID NITRO OR HELIUM. I'm not sure what the 5930K or 4960X max overclock speeds are, but assuming that either one could reach 5.2GHz or even maybe just 5.1GHz, similar to the 6700K, then I'm guessing that they would be far superior to the 6700K.

Anybody know what kind of clock speeds the 5930k or 4960x can hit? Yes I know about the silicon lottery, but since I can't test 10 of each of these, I'm just going to use the numbers found online.

What are your thoughts? Should I stay with the 6700K or take a chance on the 5930K/4960X or is there another CPU that you think would outperform these?

Thanks so much guys

would go with the 6700k because its the newest tech and highest instructions per clock. However the 5930k has 6 cores and games in the future are more and more taking advantage of more cores so there may be some longevity in that, and also quad channel memory is a bonus. Like the FX8350 wasn't doing particularly well in games till recently, but now more games can take advantage of its many cores.

The X99-line is for video editing and rendering, though they preform well in gaming, the difference is not really noticible(unless you feel like min-maxing 1-2FPS and paying hunderds for it)

I'd go with the 6700K, also for gaming, I seriously doubt you need to crank the overclock that high, most games are fully GPU dependant, and CPU makes much less of an impact

Right now, its just a gtx 960, but ill soon be upgrading to dual 980 ti or dual titan x, so i want to go ahead and choose my cpu first, allowing for upgradability in the future. But i think you guys are right about getting the 6700k for now, games that use 6 or more cores wont be commonplace for a year or two, and by then the price of the 5930 and 5960 will have dropped significantly

Admirable
Much better Price/Performance ratio 980 ti have than Titan X.
So 980 Ti is much better SLI pice $$ wise.
Since you gonna get go SLI bet is 5960X if that is much then 5930K will also do the job since you will be targeting 60fps at 4k with that SLI setup.
So all CPU bottleneck will be removed there if there will be any in 1st place, well in 1080p it will be for sure cuz those cards are made for 1440p and 4k.
