New RAM Compatible?

Hey guys,

It's been a long time since I've had to buy RAM for myself or anyone else for that matter, but as time passes, the old rust bucket needs some upgrades. I'm racking my head right now trying to remember how to figure out if RAM is compatible with my mobo or not and I just can't do it for the life of me. If you guys could shed some light on my situation and/or possibly educate me for future purposes that would be greatly appreciated. From what I read on my motherboard, it seems to support up to 1600 (OC) but it doesn't tell me anything about PC3 12800 or PC3 10666. The 1.5v voltage is the same as my current one as told to me from PC Wizard and the CL is 9 as well.

Motherboard: MSI X58 Pro-E (triple channel set up)

And here's the new RAM I'm looking at
G.Skill 1600
G.Skill 1333

Thanks again!

Here is the memory test list from MSI

http://us.msi.com/file/test_report/TR10_1804.pdf

You want to find something in that list as that is all that's guaranteed to work. Both of your selections are not on the list. This is but its only 2:

Now that said, the spec of the ones you picked is technically the same, however the ones tested with your board have a 2N command rate (the number at the end of the timing). So there is a chance the ones you picked will work, but based on that I would say probably not.

Ah thank you I was trying to find the memory list. I ended up reading thru the manual instead. Does the -2N at the end of the CL make a difference? Also I scanned thru the list looking at all the 4gb triple channel ready models and can't seem to find them packaged as triple channel. All the sets including the one you linked say dual channel. I know my motherboard can run as dual channel but is there an advantage to doing triple channel?

Looked up the G.Skill RAM on G Skill's website and both models I linked are rated at 9-9-9-24-2n on their website so I should be good right? Well I ordered them anyway and so fingers crossed!

Yeah if the model says its 2N, then it should work. Triple channel is an advantage and affords you more memory bandwidth, so having 3 matched DIMMs is an advantage.
