If I were building the system, I'd got for the GTX960, purely because nVidia has better tools at their disposal for better gaming and such. Another thing to note is that the GTX960 take half the power (120W TDP) than 280x does (250W TDP), meaning more monthly electricity cost (not much, but it adds up over a few years) as well as increased heat output. You can look at a side by side comparison here - http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-280X-vs-GeForce-GTX-960

As for your motherboard, that one is perfectly fine and should suit your build nicely.

My choice would be the r9 280x. It uses more power and is hotter but is quite a bit more powerful. Also take into consideration how ubisoft games are optimised even worse on AMD. If you do get the 960 make sure to get the version with 4gb of vram.

Thank you for your answer, I'm leaning towards the 960, but if I were to go with the R9 280x would that power supply be sufficent?

hello boys and girls.......................see don't act out of haste or in other words NOT SO FAST......................see,the GTX 960 model of nvidia is basically C.R.A.P and in other words and i quote "A good but not great card" see the R9 280X may require a little more power but it is BANG FOR YOUR BUCK see it delivers more fps and performance in games and it is consider one of the best cards from AMD so..................Me?Yeah. i would like to suggest the R9 280X cause it is superior to gtx 960 and if i may.....................would like to suggest the XFX Double Dissipation R9 280X
