Will upgrading my routers improve my internet speeds in any way?

Hello everyone, a question I have had for a little bit, is whether or not it would be beneficial for me to upgrade my 2.4 ghz routers to 2.4 ghz and 5ghz new routers. I understand that streaming services like Nvidia's, for PC's to it's tablet is best with a 5ghz band, but are there any other benefits? I currently get around 600 to 800 kilobytes a second for download speed. Thanks!

2 questions:

1. Is buying the dual-band router fiscally convenient?
2. Do you have 5 GHz adapters for the PCs et al?

One of the big advantages of 5 GHz is that it's a much less crowded spectrum. Bluetooth uses 2.4 GHz. Wireless keyboards/mice use 2.4 GHz (normally). 2.4 GHz actually has better range, so you're more likely to have interference from other signals nearby. 5 GHz is potentially much faster...but you should get more speed right now anyway, so I'd look elsewhere...like your internet connection speed. But it can be useful to switch to 5 GHz.

Using 5ghz wifi can get you notably faster connection speeds. Ther drawback is the need to be relatively closer to the router and not have many walls or other obstacles for the signal to penetrate.

My phone for instance goes from 20 meg on 2.4 ghz to 45 meg by attaching to my 5ghz. It can help if it is you wifi that is constrained rather than the internet connection.

Kinda depends on your isp and router. I just had to upgrade mine because Comcast implemented changes and the old router just couldn't keep up. So now I have a gigabit ac/n router, vrs the 300n I used to have. It's made a difference. The new router is also dual band, TV on the 5GHz, everybodys phones on 2.4GHz, so Netflix is flawless as are any phone usages when both are used at the same time.

While not super convenient, I would be willing to make the switch. I actually don't have any 5ghz adapters for my PC's. So I think I will seek just a faster internet speed. Thanks everyone!
