Hello there, hopefully this is the right place to ask. So basically I live in a two floor house and obviously my room is upstairs while the router is downstairs. What I'd like to do is to stop using Wi-Fi in my room and get some kind of a wired connection. I'd like to know what's the best thing I could do in order to get the actual mb/s in both download and upload that I should be getting, in my room, since by using Wi-Fi I am unable to do that. I was thinking about getting a long Ethernet cable starting from downstairs and then going into my room but it sounds a bit sketchy, doesn't it? I am sure someone here will have a better idea or maybe has already experienced this kind of situation so I am looking forward to read your thoughts. Thanks!

ps. I mainly game and stream in my room so I'd like to have my PC and my consoles all wired to a router. Feel free to tell me things I should buy in order to achieve what I want.

Run a cable through the floor directly to your room above and connect this to a switch. I suggested the switch so that you could have extra ports if you wanted to connect other devices with a wired connection. The switch will not affect the speed but if you decide on this make sure to get a gigabit switch. Doing this will also keep the cable lengths shorterbetween the devices.

What is the distance between the router and your room? Do you just want to run a cable along baseboards or do you want to go through the floor? The distance you have to run the ethernet cable will be of importance. The shorter the distance the better.
