Hi, I was wondering, is it possible to, hypothetically, erase a CD-R that has already been written to and finalized? (no sessions left)
According to howstuffworks, about CD burners, "The laser darkens the material to encode a 0 and leaves it translucent to encode a 1."

Does that mean it is possible to, hardware-wise, force the cd writer to burn (or darken) the entire CD, therefore the untouched bits will now be burnt and the previously burnt will still be so.
Obviously you can't restore a burned bit to being translucent, I wouldn't think.
Also would appreciate software suggestions. I'm on ubuntu linux.
