Recently upgraded my pc from Windows 7 to Windows 10, since then my secondary internal F drive is not showing anywhere. Please help me sort this out as it contains all my photos - about 3000 of them!
It seems even Microsoft can't help me.
I am a very mature computer user so simple, idiot proof reply would be good.

your secondary drive F:, is it a physical drive or a partition?

If you go to the start button, then right click on the computer and do manage. Then select the disk manager, do you see the drive there? can you assign a drive letter to it if you can find it?

Hey there, twigloo.

@RageGamingZone gave a pretty good advice and here's a tutorial on how to do that: http://www.ilovefreesoftware.com/26/windows-10/change-drive-letters-windows-10.html. On the other hand, if the drive is a physical one (not a different partition of the drive which has already been detected), I'd suggest that you try connecting it to a different SATA port of your motherboard with different cables, to see if it's recognized afterwards. Here's a guide on how to install a new hard drive, which would basically give you the idea of how to disconnect and reconnect it to a different port: http://www.pcworld.com/article/131231/how-to-install-a-new-hard-drive-in-your-desktop-pc.html
Also, you could take a screenshot of what you see about the drives and partitions in Disk Management, when you open it to change the drive's letter (you can use imgur.com to upload the image).

Hope that helps.

ok since it is a physical drive, have you tried what @Boogieman_WD suggested? It could be a bad sata connector.
Another thing I would like to know, is this an SSD or regular HDD and if it is regular, do you feel it turning when the computer is turned on(just so we know if it has power or not).

And adding a link to this tread with an imgur.com picture uploaded for your diskmanager might help us diagnose even more

As this was getting too complicated for a very senior citizen, I unplugged my pc tower and took it to my local computer chap. It seems that the mere unplugging and car journey shook it into life as when my chap booted up the pc the F drive was there with all files!! So now sorted thank you.
