I have a particular question

I am planning on building a new pc and i already bought everything

The question is, I have two identical SSD's and I'm confused about what to do first.

Do I first install windows in one of them and then go raid 0, or do I go raid 0 mode first and THEN install windows.

Any help is appreciated, thank you

Solution

raid 0 on ssd is a waste of time today.

get samsung M2 SSD card it has speed of 2200 M/s Read and 1600M/s write

your raid will be 1000 read /write at max with the risk of data loss and slower boot because of Raid drivers.

and by the way M2 SSD are not expensive.

if you can do it , do it. and get the latest Samsung with NVMe not AHCI .

SSD Raid 0 are dead after M2 SSD.

more over , M2 SSD with...

more over , M2 SSD with NVMe has 300K IOPS !!!! SSD in raid wont do more than 90k IOPS.

and if your motherboard does not have M2 slot, it is easy , buy a PCI express M2 4x PCIe 3.0 card. if you want more help I am here.

you need to first go into your Bios settings, find something named like raid controller, then enable it. After that, reboot the pc. On post, you will see a post message saying something like XXX raid controller, press a certain key combination for set-up. Press those keys and you will be prompted into the raid configuration screen.

if all your drives are connected correct at this point, it will show up on the screen. Follow the on screen instructions to configure them as raid 0. Save and reboot. Now your pc will recognize the two drives as one drive when you install windows.

Proceed to installing windows.

Done.

Hope this helps.

I happen to run 3 x Samsung evo 240 ssd's in raid 0.i get better than 1600mb read and 1300mb write.i have used 3 drives in raid o even when still on sata, sata 2 on all my systems without ever having a drive crash.my games and prgrams load extremely fast!!! proper setup and configuration has a lot to do with it.

If I may ask, what are you reading and writing to at those speeds?
If you have some other raid array or hardware that can send/receive the data at the same speed then that's great.
By not having that and just going off of what Samsung magician tells you your speed is, you essentially have a 200 mph car and no place to take it faster then 80 mph.
