i kno this is a weired question but i can get an i7-870 for 50$ on amazon.i have an i3-4130 as of right now and im going to pair the i7 with a r9 290.if i dont do that ill just get a gtx 970 and stay with i3.

Solution
Forget the i7 860 even with a deal you need an old motherboard. To be honest your current i3 will actually game better in 90% of games. I would however spend for the i5 and call it a day.

I would stay with what you have and get the 970. you would have to get a new mobo. the i3 has better single core performance but less cores obviously.

Edit: I would upgrade down the road with a better cpu to keep from bottlenecking though

You cant put an i7-870 in your current motherboard, incompatible socket. You would have to get an older socket 1156 board.

The i3 would still bottleneck the 970 on cpu intensive games.

Go ahead and get the upgraded GPU, just plan to upgrade to an i5 latter. Best bang-for-buck i5 right now is the i5-4460 that goes for $175-180.

For the cost of a single GTX 970, you can get this combo and come out with a better CPU which can handle SLI (on an SLI-capable motherboard) or an upgrade to a GTX 980 Ti later on.
