Im planning to buy a new 1TB HDD to replace my current HDD of 160GB. What should I do 1st? Are there any compatibilities to be considered? Do I need to format the new HDD just like how I formatted my old one? How do I transfer/back up all the files from the 160gb to the new 1tb HDD?

Hi there YoThan,

What is your MOBO? Anyway, I don't think that there should be any compatibility issues with 1 TB HDD.
I guess you can attach the new HDD to the system and use some cloning tool to clone the old one onto the new one. After that you can just your old drive as a secondary one.
Here's a thread on HDD cloning: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1878285/cloning-hard-drive.html

Hope this will help,
