I have a Toshiba NB305 netbook that originally shipped with Windows 7 Starter, as most netbooks did. When I first got a hold of it (it was my mother who purchased it brand new, but never used it) I removed Windows 7 and installed Windows XP Home Edition on it so it would run a little better. Later on, I partitioned the hard drive and installed Ubuntu on the other partition.

Now that I know Windows 7 Starter can be upgraded to Windows 10 Home, I reinstalled Windows 7 Starter plus SP1 using the OEM license that's on the sticker underneath the netbook, and it runs fine. Just one problem - in order to upgrade to Windows 10, all the updates for Windows 7 must be installed; however, this netbook is taking way too long to check for updates. I started checking for updates over four hours ago, and at this point, it's still checking for updates.

Prior to now, I had restarted the machine numerous times and tried checking for updates again, but it doesn't actually find any, it just keeps on checking, and checking, and checking. This is a clean install of Windows 7 Starter. I don't know what's going on, it's connected to the Internet just fine.
