1080P on youtube shows weird green black and purple pixels and skews the image

So ive had this problem for a while now and im not sure what category it should really fit in but whenever i try and play 1080p viddeos on youtube the images get skewed and the image has green purple black pixels on it,

ive done a google search but i havnt been able to word it and have gotten nowhere.
720p works fine but 1080 and 1440 p dont.

Have you tried playing 1080p videos from other sites? Vimeo? Or download a 1080p video and play it natively? The specific nature of the problem does make me suspect a hardware issue.

Try turning on/off hardware video rendering in Flash.

Here are instructions for Chrome, which has flash built in. (These say how to turn it on, but it's the same process to turn it off). That'll make the computer render the video in software, helping isolate if this is due to faulty hardware.

If it still happens with hardware acceleration turned off, then it's probably not a hardware problem. My next suggestion would then be to try installing an up-to-date codec pack. Though my understanding is that YouTube's flash playback doesn't rely on codecs.
