Installing a closed-loop water cooler upside down...

Hello

Over the past few days, I've been doing the finishing touches to my PC, while I wait for the paycheck that'll go towards the final piece I need - the CPU. I've got around to installing the Corsair H80iGT water cooler in my system, but there was a problem.. my huge HX1000i PSU is too wide for the H80iGT to fit the proper way up, so I had to install it upside down as that was the only option I had.

My question is, will having the cooler mounted upside down affect the cooling performance in any way at all, or will it be OK?
The H80iGT suggests that the cooler will run best when orientated upwards in the right position, so please can someone tell me just how much the orientation will affect its performance?

My build will be a Skylake i7 6700K, and my GPU is a reference 980 Ti. I've got noctua NF-F12 fans for the cooler, and I plan to install the second fan once I've got the CPU in place, due to the fact I can't place the cooler in if I were to install both right now. I'm also planning to connect the fans up into the pump itself and control them with Corsair Link. Thanks for the help!

I think you skimped on the case for that expensive system. It doesn't look like the VRM heatsinks are going to get much air with the rad that close. And a top mount PSU case is not the best choice for that kind of build. But to answer your question, yes... it will make a difference. But no one can give you a definitive answer for how much difference. If they do, they are guessing.

The reason I'm using this case is due to the fact its the only one I have from my previous build. Is the VRM for regulating the CPU voltage?

It is a little close, true, but my whole case will have noctua pressure fans, so hopefully they'll reduce the hot air in the case, and if the radiator fans work well enough, perhaps the radiator won't get too hot besides the VRM. It is blocking a little of the PSU intake fan too, so that's a little concern. I'll see how temps pan out over the next week when I've finally got the 6700K. Thanks for alerting me on the VRM issue. I completely overlooked that.
